Carlsberg Akademi.

Rethinking Entrepreneurship. Together.

Our Carlsberg Foundation Semper Ardens: Advance group is organizing its second international workshop in Copenhagen July '25!

All of the participants are engaging in new ways of thinking about entrepreneurship in and for society, pushing the boundaries of how we have conventionally understood entrepreneurship research and exploring more humanistic approaches to entrepreneurship in theory and practice.

Workshop Agenda

In today’s world, entrepreneurship is hailed as a universal solution—but at what cost? This workshop brings together interdisciplinary scholars to critically explore the assumptions behind dominant entrepreneurial narratives. We aim to rethink key concepts like value creation, uncertainty, and freedom, while addressing how entrepreneurial discourse shapes society.

We are looking forward to challenging conventional perspectives and shaping a more inclusive, socially informed future for entrepreneurship research and practice.

Break-Out Sessions

Geopolitics and Entrepreneurship

Ideas and practices from entrepreneurship and startup culture are playing an increasingly prominent role in shaping defense, security, and geopolitics. Yet, entrepreneurship studies have only recently begun to engage with the emerging geopolitical “polycrisis” (Klyver, 2025). Drawing on military design—a methodology developed within Western militaries to reframe complex security and defense challenges through creative, collaborative thinking and institutional mindset shifts—this session brings defense and entrepreneurship research into dialogue, not to find the answers but to try to identify and frame what questions that entrepreneurship scholars should explore and address.

Orange and Blue Abstract

AI Startups, Growth, and Tax Policy

The session will explore the transformative impact of AI on business models, tax administration, and regulatory frameworks. It aims to find challenges and opportunities at the intersection of automation, entrepreneurship, and tax compliance, fostering discussions on innovative solutions in this evolving landscape.

Art, Craft, and Entrepreneurship

This break-out session invites participants to explore the dynamic intersection of art, craft, and entrepreneurship. How can art and craft reshape how we think and practice entrepreneurship? What new forms of creative work life might emerge from the alternative of craft entrepreneurship? How is the alternative different from traditional forms of entrepreneurship?

Responsible Entrepreneurship

This session challenges the often prescriptive and ideological nature of entrepreneurship, exploring how to build more inclusive and responsible ecosystems. Participants will discuss barriers to equitable access, moral decision making in ethical venture creation, and alternative forms of organizing that rethink success, value creation, and impact beyond traditional entrepreneurial norms.

Rethinking Entrepreneurship is a research project at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and generously supported by the Carlsberg Foundation. We explore the dynamic and evolving discourse of entrepreneurship, its impact on society, and its role in shaping the future. With a team of dedicated scholars, we delve deep into the question how the way we understand entrepreneurship links to our ability to address societal change and frames our thinking about society in past, present and future.
