Stephanie Decker

Stephanie Decker is a Professor of Strategy at the University of Birmingham and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS) and the British Academy of Management (FBAM), where she currently serves as Co-Vice Chair for Research & Publications (2022–2025). She has held several academic leadership roles, including Editor-in-Chief of Business History (2019–2024), Deputy Dean of Birmingham Business School (2023–2024), and Associate Dean of Research at Aston Business School (2017–2019).

Her research explores historical methods in organizational studies, international strategy, and business development in Africa. Stephanie is particularly known for her innovative contributions to theorizing from historical research, advancing archival methodologies, and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue between social sciences and history. Her work has appeared in leading academic journals, including Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, Journal of World Business, Business & Society, and Business History.

She is the author of the research monograph Postcolonial Transitions and Global Business History, which investigates how British multinational companies responded to the independence of Ghana and Nigeria. She is also co-editor of the Handbook of Historical Methods for Management, a foundational collection of interdisciplinary perspectives on organizational history. Stephanie has received research funding from the Economic & Social Research Council, the Arts & Humanities Research Council, and the Leverhulme Trust.

She currently serves on the editorial boards of Organization Studies, Journal of International Business Studies, Business History, Accounting History, and Management & Organizational History. Additionally, she runs The Organizational History Network on Substack, a newsletter curating events and resources for scholars working at the intersection of history and organization studies.

Rethinking Entrepreneurship is a research project at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and generously supported by the Carlsberg Foundation. We explore the dynamic and evolving discourse of entrepreneurship, its impact on society, and its role in shaping the future. With a team of dedicated scholars, we delve deep into the question how the way we understand entrepreneurship links to our ability to address societal change and frames our thinking about society in past, present and future.
